Women's profile in LAU - Direct Line Film Festival

The Institute for Women's Studies in the Arab World at the Lebanese American University in coordination with Direct Line's Cine-Club organized its fourth annual film festival by the end of May at Irwin Hall in LAU Campus in Beirut.

The films selected were profiles of women who, despite their different socio-cultural and economic backgrounds (from Marlene Dietrich to Rose al-Youssef), face more or less similar problems.

Women react to these circumstances in a forceful manner, either individually or collectively and in different ways.

"The festival was a great success," commented Rayan, a student at LAU who refused to give his last name. "It shows you how women, over the past century and from around the globe, have been facing the same problems we don't face."

Some movies were followed by a general discussion with their respective directors.

The movies displayed were in English, German, Arabic, Spanish, French and Italian with subtitles.
