Terrorists bomb Beirut's McDonalds

  BEIRUT - Alternative Staff

A bomb that blasted one of the McDonalds branches in Jdeideh prompted negative reaction among most politicians and religious figures in the country.

Only four people sustained light to moderate injuries.

"We have been leading a campaign for the boycott of American products and franchises. But we have always stressed the peaceful nature of the campaign," according to a boycott campaigner.

"We do not want to enter into a discussion of the ownership of McDonalds, all what we can say is that a bomb in any establishment on the Lebanese territories might kill Lebanese citizens,"the campaigner added.

She told Alternative that terrorizing civilians should not be an option.

Lebanese security forces opened an investigation into the matter and arrested a suspect who was later freed for lack of evidence.

In the aftermath of the blast, security forces intensified their presence around American and British franchise branches such as Starbucks, McDonalds, Burger King, HSBC and other firms.

McDonalds was not the first victim to face sabotage attempts as unidentified terrorists earlier attempted at PizaHutt, Kentucky Fried Chicken and other US-UK international chains.
