Hezbollah
Shows Goodwill toward presumed Hariri Assassins
In
February 28, 2006, Dubai-based Al-Arabiya News
Channel asked Deputy Secretary General of Hezbollah
Naim Kassem why Hezbollah is not helping the
investigation process of the assassinations that
have taken place in Lebanon, knowing that the party
has a powerful intelligence agency.
Kassem
replied:
| |
"Since our interest is in the Israeli issue,
our resources, information and wire tapping,
everything we work at is directed towards
the Israeli issue.” |
In
his reply, Kassem cleared the Hezbollah face for not
providing information to support the investigations
in the assassinations. His statement also cleared
the Israelis from the assassinations and
consequently explained why Hezbollah is not helping
in the investigations.
In October 6, 2007, Secretary General of Hezbollah
Hassan Nasrallah said in a speech that was
broadcasted live:
| |
"I am convinced and not only giving a
hypothesis. It is my vision regarding the
security issue and I am presenting it to the
Lebanese, March14 leadership…since it is a
matter of political information and
political reading. I don't say that March 14
is killing its leadership and figures, but
that the Israelis are killing figures from
March 14." |
Is
the Secretary General is convinced of his own
declarations, which he did not support with any
argument, intelligence information, suspect name, or
any other piece of information? As going back to the
question that was posed to Naim Kassem, that is, why
Hezbollah is not helping the investigations in the
assassinations, one wonders whether they are
protecting Israel or whether they are not convinced
of their very own argument, which states that Israel
is behind the assassinations.
On
Monday, October 15, 2007, Hezbollah issued a
statement about a swap that took place with Israel
at Nakoura, South Lebanon, where the two sides
exchanged two Lebanese corpses and a prisoner with a
corpse of an Israeli. The statement said that the
swap was "a move to show goodwill". So Hezbollah is
telling us within 10 days that Israel is doing
assassinations in Lebanon and their reply to that is
to show good will through a small scale prisoner
swap.
